My collection is made from assembled iron mesh petals. The mesh is taken from used loudspeakers that transformed into intimate pieces that are worn on the body.
This exhibition of Dana Hakim is inspired by the book of the Israeli writer Meir Shalev “My Wild Garden”, which contains series “Four Seasons”, “Hanging Gardens”, “Folded Night”, “Undercover Light”, “Metal Lace”, “Sealed Mesh” and her earlier “Blue” series. Like Shalev’s garden, Hakim’s work is not a hundred percent wild, as she planted seeds and forms in this jewelry flowery garden.
About artist:
Dana Hakim (1977), Lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel
Dana Hakim sees jewelry as an intimate art medium, which can offer a dimension of the personal relationship. Familiar everyday commodities are often in use in her work. She transforms them and gives them a new meaning which offers the opportunity for a critical reflection. In her work, she asks questions about the reality in which we live in, about our everyday life and about the interaction between our society and us.
