Intro
Friday 15th March Ann Marie Shillito CEO of Anarkik3D will have an interview with Birgit Laken about why she is using the Haptic 3D design programme. Visit stand B1/623 Anarkik3D for demo’s and hands from 13 to 17 March.
The Haptic 3D was developed by Anne Marie at the Edinburgh College of Art in coöperation with the Edinburgh University.
The question is: is 3D printing a way of mass production or is it just for artists/designers to develop their work and to print things which cannot be made by hand.

How did Birgit Laken from the Netherlands come in contact with this haptic 3D programme?
Birgit Laken met Ann Marie Shillito in Kilmarnoc, Scotland, where the Schmuck 2002 exhibition, where she was in, was shown.
Ann Marie was talking about being a research fellow in Edinburgh to develop a new 3D haptic design system that was more enjoyable to work with for artists and free designers. When Birgit was invited to give lectures and talks at the Edinburgh College of Art, Ann Marie invited her to try out her Programme and give feedback. And every time she went there she could see and feel interesting progress. In 2007 she could design her first 3d object with this haptic system.

They surprised me with a printout, and I could hold in my hands the object that first was only virtual visible!

In 2012, Anne Marie Shillito had founded the Anarkik3D company in the meanwhile, Birgit decided to purchase this programme with the Falcon haptic device, which they had chosen for the 3D navigation, to keep this programme easy to learn and affordable. That was the start to design 3D printed jewellery besides her other hand made jewellery. Birgit wants to raise awareness of this programme to her fellow designers, artists, free designers and teachers in the creative sector.

Munich Jewellery week is the place to meet colleagues and in Stand B1/623 of Anarkik3D they can have a try to experience a haptic way of modelling!
