The Master’s Degree of Fine Arts programme combines modern technologies to contemporary art and emphasizes personal artistic expression. Theory of art studies and arts management brings the studies to the context of contemporary art.
The MFA Degree programme combines modern technologies to contemporary art. Students’ personal artistic expression is emphasized and supported during the studies.
The Degree Programme consists of lectures, virtual studies, workshops and independent artistic studies. Contact sessions and studio working are mainly organized in Skinnarila campus, Lappeenranta, in co-operation with technology laboratories of Saimaa University of Applied Sciences and Lappeenranta University of Technology.
To qualify for the degree, applicants must have a bachelor degree in Fine Arts or have a similar applied higher education degree with strong visual skills. In addition, applicants must have at least three years’ work experience after graduation.

Study objectives

Theory of art studies and arts management brings the studies to the context of contemporary art.
Study contents
Studies combine Fine Art and laser technology and 3D printing emphasizes personal artistic expression. Theory of art studies and arts management brings the studies to the context of contemporary art. The studies consist of lectures, virtual studies, workshops and independent artistic studies. The possibilities to use different technological methods, materials and equipment offer a large spectrum of choices for the students. Traditional fine arts methods, techniques and studios are also available for the students. Each student has a personal tutor teacher who helps you to develop your own artistic language. Technical support is also available when working in the workshops.
Structure of studies
The Master’s degree studies are based on blended learning methods including both face-to-face sessions, e-learning and individual artistic studies. Contact sessions and studio working are mainly organized in Skinnarila campus, Lappeenranta.
Final project
The degree includes a thesis work, which is a personal art project combined with a written report. During the studies, the students can produce a personal or a joint publication.
Electronic portfolio needs to be sent latest by 13 April 2018 at 3:00 pm. Portfolio needs to include applicant´s professional activity, artistic curriculum vitae and 8-10 images of art works.
Maximum 30 applicants will be invited to entrance exam to Imatra, Finland on 22nd -23rd of May, 2018. Entrance exam is an interview where applicant will show 3-5 original artworks. In case the artworks are too large to be transported with the applicant, please contact the student office well in advance.
The results will be announced by 28 June 2018. Make sure that you confirm your study place by 10 July 2018 at the latest; otherwise you will lose the study place offered to you.
Non-EU/EEA students are subject to tuition fees. The fee for master students is 5100 € / year.
