92NY’s Jewelry Artist Residency is a juried residency for cutting-edge, emerging and established jewelry artists to develop their work in the multifaceted New York City art scene. For a month during the summer, the Residency will provide the opportunity for an international artist with a studio-based practice to develop a new body of work or complete research while engaging with NYC’s cultural community. A rotating panel of experts and professionals in the arts and humanities will independently review applications and materials.
For 150 years, 92NY has been a world-class cultural institution where people around the world connect through culture, the arts and entertainment.
92NY has harnessed the power of the arts and ideas to enrich, enlighten and change lives. It is a destination for influencers and pioneers on both sides of the podium to nurture talent and provide the space for innovative and exhilarating conversations and performances. The 92nd Street Y Jewelry Center serves 1,000 students each year through over 55 classes weekly and technical workshops in four fully equipped studios. It is the oldest open studio in New York City and the largest program of its kind in the country. The wide variety of courses and levels allows students to pursue comprehensive courses of study, whether it’s a basic introduction for the absolute beginner or advanced workshops and studio time for pre-professionals and professionals refining their skills.
The International Jewelry Artist Residency is a juried residency for cutting-edge, emerging and established jewelry artists to develop their work in the multifaceted New York City art scene. For a month from mid-August to mid-September, the Residency will provide the opportunity for an international artist with a studio-based practice to develop a new body of work or complete research while engaging with New York's cultural community.
The International Jewelry Residency includes access to 92NY Residence, 24-hour private studio working space and travel expenses to and from New York City.
This Residency offers the opportunity for an artist to share with the New York City design community their different aesthetic, technical or design impetus through a required 2-day lecture and workshop at 92NY Jewelry Center during the last weekend of the residency and through professional meetings with participating cultural institutions while expanding their artistic and professional opportunities.
Jonathan Wahl, Director of 92NY’s Jewelry Center said, Now in its seventh year, this residency is unique—the only one solely devoted to jewelry artisans and based in NYC, and we look forward to welcoming another artist. The International Jewelry Artist Residency includes housing in a 92NY Residence, access to a 24-hour private studio working space, and travel expenses to and from NYC. Proposals for the self-directed residences must be compatible with available working studio spaces, facilities, and resources.
