Intro
Romanian Jewelry Week invites participating artists and guests to join Tracing Origins: Mapping Local Histories of Contemporary Jewelry, a panel discussion moderated by Anna Wójcik-Korbas, taking place during this year’s edition of ROJW. The conversation will focus on the lesser-known histories, artists, galleries and cultural contexts that influenced the development of contemporary jewelry in different countries.
The international history of contemporary jewelry is often discussed through the perspective of its most recognised centres. At the same time, contemporary jewelry scenes in many countries developed within their own specific social, political, educational and cultural contexts. Important local artists, schools, galleries, communities and artistic tendencies often remain little known beyond national borders.

The panel aims to bring these different perspectives together and to look at the history of contemporary jewelry as a network of parallel experiences rather than a single linear narrative. We invite interested artists to prepare a short presentation of approximately 15 minutes on the development of contemporary jewelry in their country. The presentation may address, among other topics:

●      when and under what circumstances the local contemporary jewelry scene began to develop;
●      key artists, goldsmiths, schools, galleries or communities;
●      historical, social, political or cultural influences;
●      characteristic materials, techniques and artistic tendencies;
●      connections with the international contemporary jewelry field;
●      traces of this history in current artistic practice.

The presentations will be followed by a moderated discussion and a Q&A session with the audience.

Event details: 1 October 2026.
National Library of Romania, Bucharest.
Language: English.
Moderated by Anna Wójcik-Korbas.
Participation is free of charge for both speakers and the attending audience.

To apply, please send a short proposal to hello@romanianjewelryweek.com and annamariawojcik.1995@gmail.com by the 16th of August 2026.

We hope the discussion will create a space for international knowledge exchange and help introduce histories that are still underrepresented in the wider contemporary jewelry discourse.
