Bachelor in Fine Arts, major in Contemporary jewellery and Jewellery Design – 2 Years program:

Tutors: Lucia Massei and Sanaa Khalil

Alchimia’s BFA offers a 2-years full immersion course into the world of contemporary jewellery. Students are encouraged to explore materials and technical processes that best serve to create an original body of work. Our jewellery design program offers a 360-degree journey through contemporary jewellery, with focused support in the development of a personal artistic style. Our two-year BFA degree program offers a comprehensive grounding in contemporary jewellery and body ornaments.

The program is divided into six semesters that provide, through a challenging but organic full-immersion process, a balanced combination of practice and theoretical principles to enhance the competence of future jewellery designers.

Following Alchimia’s philosophy, this programme nurtures an approach to learning that merges the theoretical, the pragmatic, and the experiential in order to develop confidence, skill, creativity, and imagination.

This BFA Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Jewellery Design is tailored to each student individually thanks to a team of expert teachers that provide individual tutoring. Moreover, our jewellery design program is built on a variety of different professional experiences that encompass carefully selected study trips both locally and abroad.

These two-year jewellery design programme may function as a self-contained program for those who are interested in achieving short-term high-level results or work as a jewellery designer. In addition, our program can be interesting also for those who would like to enrol on an MFA programme in Contemporary Jewellery. Every student is assigned their own personal workbench and given complete access to the facilities and the equipment at the school.

Only twelve BFA students are admitted per year for each course, ensuring close and personal interaction between students and tutors.
Candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent are eligible to be selected after the Admission Process. English language proficiency is required.
Lessons take place from the beginning of September to the end of July, for a total of 1422 hours per year. Each academic year is equal to 90 credits, divided into 3 semesters, of 30 credits each. For a total of 180 credits in 2 years.

All classes are held in English and take place from September to July.

Master in Fine Arts, major in Contemporary Jewellery and Cultural Identity - 2 Years program:

Tutors: David Clarke and Evert Nijland

Alchimia’s MFA program develops over a two-year period with the aim of expanding and deepening students’ knowledge and skills in studio-based contemporary jewellery design. Our programme is intended to generate further critical understanding of contemporary jewellery, strengthen individual artistic approaches and positions, and investigate new possibilities for marketing and promotion.

The objective of the course is to render the students independent and highly prepared in every aspect of their work as jewellery designers and makers, not only in research, creation, and production, but also in networking, exhibiting and self-presentation in relation to galleries and collectors. Special attention is given to the ability to position your work within a contemporary context and to critically evaluate your own progress.

Our MFA Master of Fine Arts major in Contemporary jewellery and Cultural identity program also involves more collective activities, such as carrying out the entire process of holding an event — including fundraising, curating, and writing the appropriate contents.

During the second year of the MFA Master of Fine Arts major in Contemporary jewellery and Cultural identity, students have access to a workshop space exclusively designed for them. Only 8 students for the MFA program are admitted per year, ensuring close and personal interaction between students and tutors.

Classes are taught in English.
