DEADLINE: 31/07/2019

Applicants should be able to speak to a diversity of approaches to jewellery and metals including those intersecting with contemporary art, function, craft, and design. Candidates with a strong practice in Metalsmithing are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will design and deliver contemporary curriculum at all levels of the BFA and MFA Jewellery + Metals program; maintain an active professional/research/studio practice and support the institution through committee work and academic governance; and continually demonstrate a commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence.
Candidates will demonstrate a range of advanced jewellery and metalsmithing skills, knowledge of the history of the discipline, and a capacity for critical thinking and discourse. Digital design and fabrication skills are preferred as is a capacity to teach in other departments at ACAD. Past experience in academic service, curricular innovation, and Jewellery + Metals studio management will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues from a diversity of academic and studio disciplines, and thrive in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment committed to developing new and innovative curriculum.
The School of Craft + Emerging Media (SCEM) offers students a rigorous studio education in the evolution, invention, and critical recombination of established and emerging skills. Home to ACAD’s four craft programs—Ceramics, Fibre, Glass, and Jewellery + Metals—as well as the Media Arts program, SCEM also offers minors in Object Design + Fabrication and Animation.
Located just north of downtown Calgary, the Alberta College of Art and Design offers its 1100 students' studio-based programming that leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in one of nine disciplines, a Bachelor of Design in one of two, and an MFA in Craft Media. It has developed deep roots in Calgary’s creative community and is about to start a new chapter of its nearly 100-year history as it becomes a university in 2019. The successful applicant will work closely with colleagues from a diversity of academic and studio disciplines and thrive in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment committed to developing new and innovative curriculum. Further information about ACAD is available on our website at www.acad.ca.
Requirement:
The successful candidate will have completed an MFA or graduate degree in a relevant academic discipline and demonstrated technical skills and a wide knowledge of all aspects of the discipline with respect to the international practice of Jewellery + Metals.
