The process of contemporary jewellery designing can be described as a journey of discovery and transformation. On itself is a self-reflexive practice, which means that it is shaped by a distinct awareness of the situation in which it exists, viewed in terms of its essential qualities and distinct form. It generally operates in a critical or conscious attitude to history and practice and to the broader field of jewellery design.
The 2nd edition of SIJW will take place from 11 May to 19 May 2023 in different locations throughout Slovenia.
Theme:
The creative theme for SIJW 2023 is Contemporary Alchemy – the art of transformation.
Past – Jewellery tradition: cultural heritage and craftsmanship;
Present – Sustainability in jewellery: recycled materials and sustainable sources;
Future – Jewellery and science: Robotics, artificial intelligence and digitization.
Those interested in exhibiting jewellery in a group exhibition can apply using one of the topics that are part of the theme. A specially curated and themed exhibition will present all selected pieces of jewellery.
A list of all selected designers participating in the Slovenian Jewellery Week – SIJW exhibition, satellite projects and workshops will appear on the SIJW website. Users can locate the projects of each registered and selected designer, gallery, school, or museum through the website's active map of Slovenia. There will also be other online platforms where SIJW and designers can promote themselves. Guided
