Intro
Ten years ago, we asked the EM Student community how an artist can foster a healthy studio practice. Now, we want to challenge you to look into the future and share what you envision.
How do you see the jewelry and metalsmithing field evolving in a world of limited resources? What does this mean for you as an artist in this ever-changing landscape? Consider what alternative processes and materials jewelers and metalsmiths might use in a future where materials like gold continue to rise in price and have economic, social, political, and environmental impacts. Investigate how the jewelry and metalsmithing field could adapt over the next 10, 20, or even 100 years.

This year, we invite you to explore how jewelry and metalsmithing can embrace or become powerful tools for sustainability. Examine how your practice can contribute to a more sustainable future. What role can you play as a steward of the craft? Consider what jewelry has to offer, both to society, and you as the creator. How does the transformative process of making jewelry shape you into a more thoughtful, responsible artist who makes work that meaningfully contributes to the good of all people and the health of our planet?
This is an opportunity to showcase your creativity, share your thoughts about the future of metalsmithing, and inspire future generations of students.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing your exciting work!
