Intro
Knives, forks and spoons are some of the most important items of metalwork in western culture, but their familiarity can make them easy to overlook. We use them every day, and they are a key part of the pleasure and the performance of dining.
Join this workshop at the Goldsmiths’ Company’s Library and Archive to explore its outstanding collection of books and design drawings and see how designers throughout history have played with the potential of cutlery to create sensory experiences, displays of status, and markers of identity. This event includes the opportunity to see, handle, photograph and draw a range of unique archival material.

This event coincides with the exhibition The Culture of Cutlery, which will be held from 22 April to 24 June 2026 at the Goldsmiths’ Centre. The exhibition explores the material history of cutlery with a focus on 20th and 21st-century UK makers.

Dates: 20 May 2026
Hours: 2pm – 4pm
Price: £20
