Nicole van der Wolf

Bio

Nicole van der Wolf (1971) is a Dutch contemporary jewellery designer & maker. She lives and works in Dublin, Ireland. Nicole obtained her Diploma in Gemmology from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and trained at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, before enrolling in the Jewellery Skills and Design Course at The School of Jewellery, Dublin. Nicole is a member of the Irish Jewellers and Silversmiths Guild, Design and Crafts Council of Ireland, and a fellow of the Gemological Association of Great Britain.

Statement

My work explores the enduring relationship between people and water in all its forms.

Inspired by the rhythms and movements of the merchant marine, my kinetic pieces incorporate rolling elements that evoke the power of the sea and the calming undulations of its waves. These pieces are visually dynamic and tactile, inviting a playful engagement that brings the wearer into a physical dialogue with the piece, bridging art and body in a nurturing, meditative experience - soothing, anchoring and relieving anxiety.

Each piece is carefully crafted by hand in my Dublin studio, using traditional techniques like hand fabrication, lost wax casting and riveting. These methods allow me to imbue each piece with a personal connection to the precious materials and the water-inspired narratives that shape my practice.

My jewellery aims to be both a nurturing object for the wearer and an extension of personal style - a talisman to accompany you on your journey. It embodies the strength to choose your own path and celebrate the creative energy that ties us together.
