Peter Schilling

Bio

Peter Schilling lives and works in the Boston, Massachusetts area. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Columbia University. He designs and carves fine jade to create jewelry that is essentially Modernist yet informed by the millennia of art he handled while installing exhibitions for twenty seven years at the Harvard Art Museums.
 

Statement

I design and craft jade jewelry from a modernist approach to design and craft, in an artistic medium that dates back millennia. Any apparent contradiction in this statement is a fiction. I make contemporary art in fine jade, creating jewelry that is very sculptural and tactile. My hope is that each piece I carve becomes a meaningful and cherished touchstone for its wearer.
