Statement
Landscape, 2015After the completion of the body as a year after the completion of the landscape, I continued to complete the series of dialogues with mountains and rivers. The material language is more abundant in this series, retaining the original mirror material, adding paper materials and calligraphy. Combine the flat body and the three-dimensional landscape for a series of creations. It is hoped that there will be an interaction with the viewer. The dialogue formed between the mountain and the mirror guides the viewer into the depths of the work and carries out meditation.
Body as Landscape
’Body as a mountain‘ is an artistic research topic which has been studied and thought about in recent ten years. This research topic is characterized by a long span of time and its extensive content which the overall thinking of a range of issues and from Chinese traditional culture and public art research. All of those are based on philosophic and deep-rooted expression and reflection on body, wearable objects and landscape.
One of my major research directions through my lifework is putting issues of ‘body, landscape and works’ into my research. And it has been a thinking way that going on in my works. Although my artworks are deeply rooted in Chinese traditional idea – 'body as landscape', there is a connecting bridge between the daily life of art and contemporary global environment. Therefore, the curriculum I planned and my research in the past are jointly presenting the evolutional relationship between traditional Chinese heritage and contemporary art. My point is that through the curriculum I will connect sculpture and contemporary jewelry art together through wearable sculpture works.
Red Memories
Gij, a teacher at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, asked me what is the feeling of this generation for Mao?
I answered it with my work.
Coffee and Tea
In November 2004, I got a coffee cup with her grandmother from her grandmother... her story... my life...
Lilywater
The fall of Antwerp is often spent in the rain. Excessive drizzle makes me feel homesick from time to time. I think of the scene of walking around the West Lake with an umbrella in the rainy season. Because of excessive homesickness, I want to pass the emotions into the work. As the ancient capital of the Southern Song Dynasty, Hangzhou has a description of the West Lake. The lotus leaf on the lake is often the subject of literati. I used this method to make a small piece of corrugated technique and use gold-plated techniques to complete the part. The three movable umbrellas that can be rotated by the wind...
