This project, entitled “A TALE FROM MULTIPLE WORLDS” gathers contemporary artist jewellers from both sides of the world and asks them to face the “seven beauties”, i.e. the modern equivalents of Aristotle’s seven primaries: black, red, yellow, blue, white, purple and green.
The subtitle “Synthesis and possibilities on colours and preciousness” wants to emphasize the connatural possibilities offered by dealing with this subject matter, opening doors and providing dialogues not only among artists but also among the different artistic practices.
Facing colors with different media of expressions, and facing the multiple layers of their meanings brought up a collection of pieces where different possibilities and synthesis interact with the goldsmithing practices: here are the tales from multiple worlds. Furthermore, the multiple layers of significance provided both by colours and the jewels gave us all the possibility to reflect on how much both subjects have to do with the history of humanity.
To deal with both colours and jewels means to deepen a subject matter which is strongly connatural to humankind, revealing a complex system of relationships. Colors and jewels are related to social history; anthropology, lexicon, arts, business, economics, chemistry, alchemy, and philosophy. Layers, resonances, meanings, the fascinating history both jewels and colours cast, propel, and convey is re-traceable since the mists of humanity. When does humanity need to express itself with colors and jewels, thus with ARTS? And why?
Far from providing a definitive answer, this site-specific project wanted to gather different tales on colours from both the Eastern and Western worlds.
The synthesis and the various possibilities offered by colours and their meanings; the symbols and the rewards of the details; the effects of light, shades, and the different techniques wanted to offer a broad spectrum of visions and tales from East to West and…back again in The Blue Room, where dialogue started.
This “tale of multiple worlds” collects and combines several worlds provided both by the Artists and by me, because we all belong to multiple worlds.
To me, in particular, my cherished worlds are Europe and Japan.
Thanks for your attention.
