Intro
Since 2008, LAO - Le Arti Orafe Jewellery School has also organized the contest/exhibition Preziosa Young, dedicated to emerging artists selected through an international competition. With the aim to contribute to the circulation of what is new in research jewellery, as well as showcase what the new generations of goldsmiths/designers/artists are 'brewing'.

Thanks to the seriousness of intent, the visibility and promotion deals to selected artists, and the high profile of the jury, Preziosa Young has become a prestigious worldwide event. Every year we select a small number of artists by assessing the material that the candidates submit to us: a concise presentation of their research and images of their work. The jury doesn’t know the participants’ names, countries of origin or the schools they have attended and have to choose the winners based on the originality of their research, the formal quality of the jewellery, and the coherence between concept and objects.

Preziosa is a cultural project, the first annual exhibition dedicated to Contemporary Jewellery in Italy. Every year the artistic approach to the complex subject of jewellery is explored through a specific concept and with the selection of artists from the international scene. The project, imagined, managed and coordinated by LAO started in 2005 and has quickly become the most important Italian event devoted to contemporary jewellery.

Preziosa Young Competition is open to worldwide artists, goldsmiths, silversmiths, designers, and professionals, to present projects that illustrate the work in which they are currently involved.

For each edition, an international jury composed of curators, artists, and critics selects a small number of young artists from all those who have submitted their candidature.
Selected artists will be exhibited in specially designed exhibition spaces at Preziosa Exhibition, Florence Jewellery Week. A high-quality catalogue will be published, introducing the selected artists with a short biography, full-colour images, and a description of the work.

Awards:
  • PREZIOSA prize: The works of the selected participants are presented in Florence, in conjunction with Florence Jewellery Week, which will take place in spring 2024.
  • LAO special prize: One of the selected artists is invited to Florence for a period of one to three months, as an Artist in residence.
  • Inhorgenta prize: One of the selected artists is awarded a free space for participation as an exhibitor in the following edition of the fair.

Exhibition:
The Preziosa Young exhibition will take place in Florence in conjunction with the international exhibition/conference Florence Jewellery Week 2024. The organizers could also plan other exhibitions throughout the year. By entering the competition candidates automatically accept the obligation - if selected - to deliver their works to all the scheduled events. The winners of the competition must send a congruous number of objects for the scheduled exhibitions, according to the indications by the organizers. These pieces must be the same or similar to those submitted for the selection.
