On July 10th, 1941, the residents of the small Polish town of Jedwabne committed one of the biggest crimes against their own neighbours. Close to 1000 people of Jewish religion were burned to death. It was not until very recently, that the tragedy had been kept silenced. In 2011, president Bronisław Komorowski publicly asked for forgiveness.

The project “Z Jedwabnego My…” looks at examining the attitudes (past and present) towards the episode in Jedwabne.

From the very beginning, the history of humanity has been marked by rituals of violence. Many of the things we know today about war tactics and tools used, are found at the old sites (cities, towns and fields) where events took place.

Through these artefacts –or pieces of information-, historians can fill certain blank spaces in human history while we just tend to trust the interpretations without doubt in order to understand our past, assigning a sentiment to the actions of yesterday. As a sole alternative, these traces of the past become legends that inform our times today.

Perhaps, the remnants of destruction are the heritage we leave behind as a human race and a secure way of communicating with the world of the future. In a comparison of art and war, it may be that the act of expressing what we think today (about religion, ideology, gender, etc.) will be inevitably transformed by the sentiment of the people of the future.-2016-2016
