In the aftermath of the prolonged coronavirus outbreak in 2020, it is a pity that the field of culture and arts has shrunk significantly. Art is more likely to fall behind than economic activities essential to survival. Still, such a difficult time is when culture and arts are needed to comfort and heal our isolated and harsh hearts.
Pureun Culture Foundation has curated and sponsored the exhibition called "Sagabowol" with the house's theme in 2018 and the following year, in 2019, another show titled "Nest in a Garden" with the theme of the garden has exhibited. And finally, "Absolutely Abstract" with the theme of abstraction for 2020.
In terms of the etymology of abstract, the word "abs" represents the meaning of "away", and "tract" refers to "draw". In other words, abstraction states to the process of not reproducing an object precisely and realistically from an object, but of geometrically and structurally constructing a fine form-factor or expressing one's thoughts or inner feelings through the matching of colours. There are cold abstractions (or geometric abstractions), like geometric patterns, that consist of fine formative elements. Simultaneously, there are hot abstracts that express the inner world freely and symbolically based on the artist's subjective feelings and intuition.
Wilhelm Worringer said that there is "abstraction will" inhuman aesthetic sense by natural. Artists turn their eyes from specific objects to their minds and reconstruct them into their own symbolism and characters to express the inner world and pursue purity, creating a place for the audience to experience new things through the art of "meaning" rather than merely "reproduction".
In this exhibition, 22 artists active in the contemporary craft scene will participate in the show, presenting 120 abstract works at the Lee Eugean Gallery. [...]This year, many craft artists with this theme have won awards in the leading international competitions, raising the status of Korean crafts which makes it more meaningful.
While appreciating the world’s leading Korean craft artists’ works of art, which are expressed in their abstract language and reconstructed their senses using various materials, I hope you to find the relaxation of tired body and mind. And I wish you an affluent and warm end of the year.
