Awai あわい in Japanese means in between worlds, where it is, and it is not here or there. These exhibition pieces are forms that contain air. Air distinguishes life.

Sayaka Ito
My zinc pieces are containers of life, and maybe we are, too. The zinc is hammered until it forms indefinite, amorphous shapes. The forms result from time passing and energy passing on. We are small fragments of the whole that are perishable, ephemeral, and therefore, I cherish the life I am given.

Every existing thing is ephemeral and therefore so beautiful. You may not agree with me, but I feel like a music note that is part of the whole music score, sometimes creating consonant with others and sometimes dissonant. I will be playing as long as I can, and slowly fade out, as it should be, and as beautiful as can be.
