Bubble Land is the second group exhibition presented by the contemporary jewellery group of Bench 886. The group consists of ten Taiwanese jewellery artists, whose works are influenced by their cultural background and present surrounding environment.
Last year, Bench 886 made their first debut in Munich, Germany during SCHMUCK week, with a group show entitled “Ni Hao”, which is hello or greeting in Mandarin. This year, they opt to return with a more intensified theme, between March 11-15, at Gallery Kobeia, hoping to set out from the details of everyday life, capturing and constructing impressions of the past, present, and possibly the future.
Within the process of making jewellery, artists’ unconsciously document their dialogue between themselves and the Taiwanese spirit. Heng Lee and Yu-ping Lin recreate the pattern and vibrant colours of the ecosystem. Mei-fang Chiang and Ying-hsiu Chen work on the minimal of everyday life by magically enlarging the details. Ying-hsun Hsu attempts to pick up the neglected imperfection and fragments. The emphasis on colonial interaction can be seen in Shih-dea Tseng and Cai-xuan Wu’s work pieces; whereas the most familiar housing aspects and sense of belonging are found in Han-chieh Chuang, Wen-miao Yeh and Yung-huei Chao’s jewelleries.
The team’s 2015 program starts off with Munich exhibition, then touring back to their homeland, Kaoshung, from April 25 to May 15. Along with the exhibition, members will be giving a talk to share their experience in Germany and contemporary jewellery abroad. The talk will be held on April 18 in Taipei, and April 25 in Kaoshung.
