Artist listShari Pierce
For Shari Pierce gold or silver is not the starting point for her work, she uses old cardboard boxes. Cardboard shares a remarkable characteristic with precious metals: both can be reused. She does not delete the past, but makes the reverse of our prosperity part of her work. Cardboard fragments are immersed in old left-over paint, making them stronger both in performance and meaning. It is the beginning of an entirely different cycle: Pierce’s works perform as jewellery in cultural life, causing confusion, provoking questions.
Why wear a political statement as a piece of jewellery? Sometimes a politician’s film has more impact than years of campagning for the environment, why could jewellery not play such a role. Besides their idealistic intention, there is also a very different aspect to Shari Pierce’s work; they are intriging objects, advocating a new frail aesthetics. Unexpectedly sculptural statements from a world usually passed by in haste. ‘Cardboard Democracy’ is an exhibition on beauty. Don’t miss it!
In the same period there will be a presentation in the ‘Anteroom’ with jewellery and objects from the Dutch artist Daan Brouwer.
The next solo exhibition at Galerie Rob Koudijs opens the 1st of September 2007 with "Dolomieten Sagen’, new jewellery from Jantje Fleischhut.
