If contemporary history jumps directly from life itself, then what we call non-contemporary history comes directly from life. Because the most obvious thing is only the current living interest can drive us to seek knowledge of past facts; for the facts of the past, as it is triggered by current interests, is echoing a current interest, and not interested in the past.
