Specializing in contemporary jewelry, Ruddy Metal Studio (RMS) has initiated and curated the ‘Contemporary Human Beings Recruitment Project’, dedicated in finding cross-boundary artists who use multiple and various materials in their creations. RMS invites designers and artists to create installations and jewelry pieces that apply food as a medium, in order to question the daily act of eating as the theme.
Artist list
Yujie Dai, Ellan Huang, Chen Liu, Xindi Nie, Meng Sun, Fan Xia, Starry Xiao, Dandan Xing, Xiari Zheng
After recruiting, RMS selected applicants and launched Eat It! as the second exhibition tour.
To Eat is a means of basic survival, at the same time it provides mental satisfaction as well as being an essential method of communication between people. Our behavior of eating is able to reflect upon ourselves, on others, and most importantly to determine our relationship with food itself and with our natural environment.
With its initial round of exhibitors, RMS invited 10 creators of different backgrounds for Eat It!, with common interests of exploring the possibilities of food, they present interactive installations with real food to express their questionings of eating.
Invited Contemporary Creators / Organizations:
RMS Club.
The greatest change and deception in contemporary life comes from the confusion of blind judgment caused by the over-emphasis on vision and function but a weakening of other senses.
As a jewellery studio, RMS creates a club atmosphere, including order system, music. colorful beverage, containers and packing box.

We want to see How long would people like to stay in an environment that deceives your eyes, in where comfort and discomfort coexist at the same time?
Yujie Dai.
Being human means we are limited by what we are capable of seeing and understanding. The farmer story mentioned in the book the three-body problem reveals everything about our ignorance as human species. But our genetic advantages never put us in the position of the victims. Instead, we’ve been playing the part as the predator ever since the very beginning of human civilization. After spending so much time recording and watching Mukbang every single day, we nowadays don’t eat for survival but for entertainment. How should we treat our food and what should we expect in the future? I am sure the answers are quite different for everyone.
Xindi Nie x Liang Xiao.
From materials to waste, we adapt our aesthetics on design concepts, considering the sustainability of food in industries. Dedicated in providing refined dishes of originality, diversified packaging designs for food-related brands, food styling, restaurant experience designs and multi-dimensional culinary design services.
Chen Liu/ Minor Lab.
Kung Pow Installation.
From the scale relation of a plate of Kung Pow chicken,
To explore the relationship between people and the world in a fictional way.
Chicken, onion, chili and other ingredients are nearly the same sizes:
It is the standard size set by the established size of peanut.
It is the suitable size for cooking to create the rule of heating sequence.
Dimensions of food passages from chopsticks, mouth opening and entrance;
It is also a delightful dietary dimension consisting of a mixture of teeth and tongue.
Ellan Huang x Xindi Nie.
Is what you get the same as what you have seen?
When one seeks to understand and obtain something, all sorts of methods are established in order to ‘achieve’ the target. Yet the tempting physical appearance of things can be deceiving; is it certain that what is ‘seen’ is what you will get?
Weiwei Chen.
Inspired by Alexander Calderr's dynamic balance sculpture.
The work uses pure white round marshmallows and connects these nodes with very fine wire. By adjusting the distance between the points and lines, the marshmallows node keeps rotating, rising and falling, seemingly to be separated, but always keeps a delicate dynamic balance.
Fan Xia.
PANDORA, a multinational biotechnology company, has developed a human-shaped fruit through genetic engineering. After eating, it has the functions of prolonging life, strengthening the heart and body, and strengthening the brain and intelligence. The word Fu in the fruit center can also play an amazing role in recruiting wealth and protecting the peace. This will be a milestone for humans to reach higher levels of life. The aim of PANDORA is that we can change all the impossibilities for the sake of human tomorrow.
Through the fictional scenes, the work reflects on the human behavior of interfering with biological growth in violation of natural laws, and from the "Fuwa Ginseng Fruit" appearing on the market, questioning the similar absurd behavior.
