Klarenbeek & Dros were the first designers in the world to 3D-print mycelium, a living material consisting of the thread-like root structure of fungi. They are now combining this material with the properties of algae, seaweed and moss.

Klarenbeek & Dros
Maartje Dros and Eric Klarenbeek are pioneers in the field of material innovation and are setting new standards. Die Neue Sammlung presents their first monographic exhibition.
Since 2004, the design duo has been working with materials that protect the environment and promote biodiversity. They focus on new production methods for creating climate-friendly, biocompatible, and 100% biodegradable materials. This is made possible by using the organisms that capture CO2 and produce oxygen.
In doing so, Klarenbeek & Dros are standing for a sustainable production in cooperation with local networks and manufacturers. Their goal is to integrate eco-technology into everyday life. Their innovations include furniture made with mycelium and moss, vessels made from algae-based bioplastics or glass made from diatoms.
MEDIA CONFERENCE WITH KLARENBEEK & DROS: 16.07.2026, 11.00 AM
LOCATION: PINAKOTHEK DER MODERNE
OPENING: 16.07.2026, 07.00 PM
