In the Chinese history of visual arts, the portrait plays a prominent role. During the golden age of classical Chinese Arts, people required personalized and lifelike portraits. In the Face to Face series Jie Sun explores his description of the face in the language of contemporary jewelry. “I’m not willing to present it in a realistic way, but in an abstract form with a unique soul.”

The Concept exhibition "FACE to FACE - SUN JIE" has opened successfully at HeyJewel Space in Shanghai at 21st of December 2013. It has presented a unique contemporary jewellery exhibition with concept in China.
Every “Face” in our daily life has stories of its own, no mater it’s a face of human being or the others. On the history of visual arts, Faces are usually presented in painting, sculpture and later on photography. The earliest portraits belong to the kings and emperors. In China, a favor of portrait rises in imperial family of ancient China and especially in Tang Dynasty (a.D. 618-907), was the golden age of classical Chinese Arts, which people require personalized and lifelike portraits. In the Description of modern European Art, Portrait became a way of Exploring and expressing the inner self of the artists. “Face to Face”Brooch series is my own description of “face” in the language of contemporary jewelry. And I’m not willing to present it in a realistic way, but in an abstract form with a unique soul.
The concept of exhibition design inspired by Jie Sun's work, that the result of big quantity leaves. The simple material and form loading ideas, extending the visual language of his jewellery to a wider space.
