Intro
The Contretemps exhibition presents creations and research by students graduating in 2020 with a DNSEP (National Higher Degree in Visual Expression) Master’s in Art, Object. Three of them are from the Jewellery workshop of the Rhine Higher School of the Arts, Aurélie-Victoire Celanie, Augustin Jans and Juliette Même.

Artist list

Choé Boulestreau, Pierre Boyer, Valentine Cotte, Aurélie-Victoire Célanie, Augustin Jans, Zoé Joliclercq, Juliette Même, Davy Toussaint
After their presentation for their DNSEP Master’s degree to a jury of professionals, the students present a selection of their work to La Chaufferie. These pieces testify to their years of research and experiments conducted with the support of the artists, theoreticians, or professionals who have guided them throughout their studies. Contretemps was designed by these artists, working together in a situation conducive to adjusting to time differences. Hitherto untried conditions for creation, at a distance from the workshop, paradoxically provided stimulation for their approach to working with objects. A carousel creates remote narration, linking the different works and projecting them into a fictional cyclical movement.

Teachers: Sophie Hanagarth, Florence Lehmann.

The pieces are being exhibited at La Chaufferie, the HEAR Gallery until 1 Nov.
Address: Rue de la Manufacture des Tabacs, 5 Strasbourg.
Opening Hours:
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 2 pm - 6 pm.
By appointment only.

Aurélie-Victoire Célanie. Drawing: Pacifier, 2020. Brass, plastic and silicon.. 12 x 9 cm. From series: Pacify evils. Pacify words. Pacify the dead.. Statment: Migrations, fractures, fragmentations, isolation, relationships, eclecticism, hybridity, accumulation, repetition, and rhizome networks are just so many evils, in so many words, that affect the population in the Caribbean. And my creations soak them all in, to simultaneously relocate, metamorphose and sustain the art and spirit of the Creole jeweler, contributing to the affirmation, both plural and singular, individual and collective of a lifestyle and way of thinking that would benefit from being researched more thoroughly beforehand.. Augustin Jans. Piece: Tonfa, 2020. Hypoallergenic silicon moulding.. 60 x 20 cm. Statement: I polarize my work around political and social questions. I answer them through objects that are both cynical and socially committed, somewhere between humor and provocation. The jewel I create is an insignia for its wearer.  It broadcasts the message, spreading it in the social area. The space where it exists is the body and its exhibition space is the world. Placing myself firmly in opposition to the idea of standardization, I design objects/concepts that challenge my own reticence and that of those who view my objects.. Augustin Jans

Juliette Même. Necklace: Easter Awakening, 2020. Easter chocolate wrappings.. necklaces: 25 cm, earrings: 5 x 1 cm. Statement: My work is an attempt to reveal or intensify the meaning and the message of things that have none because they are an integral part of our daily life. It plays on shape and material, manipulating things from the daily environment to this end. Placing the object on the body is a way to reveal its value, to “create interest” in something which, “at first glance”, had none.. Juliette Même
