The exhibition serves both as a statement on urgent, universal issues and as a celebration of contemporary jewelry. Opening on October 5th at the Querini Stampalia Foundation, the third edition of I DON’T SHINE, I have something to say brings together numerous international artists, highlighting on a global stage the communicative power of jewelry.
Artist list
Silvana Bohorquez, Hennie Broers, Sherry Cordova, Laura Di Leo, Marcela Dias, Luisa M. Florez Herran, May Gañán, Mariana Gorga, Julian Graeve, Mariko Kumon, Nina Lima, Sophie Lowe, Marisia Lukaszewski, Folpo-Filippo Marani, Amanda Paige, Verónica Pérez, Jemma Slade, Amanda Tartik, Sheila Westera
Running from October 5th to 26th, the exhibition invites the public to explore contemporary jewelry, showcasing its capacity to convey powerful and universal messages. Visitors will be able to experience a carefully curated selection of artworks, brought together by Eleonora Varotto | HOOROON in collaboration with Lisa Balasso and the Cultural Association Arte Design Venezia. This international contemporary jewelry exhibition allows visitors to discover the essence of this art form.
As curator Eleonora Varotto explains: “Contemporary jewelry does not ask to be admired for its beauty, but to be listened to for what it has to say. It is a device that, in sync with our body, speaks about our time”.
Venice Design Week 2025
I DON’T SHINE, I have something to say is part of the 2025 edition of Venice Design Week, the annual design festival held in Venice every October since 2010. Today, the festival has become a widespread event, seamlessly integrating with the city as it winds its way through calli and campielli, private galleries and museums, homes and artists’ studios, as well as stores and workshops.
This year’s edition, Tempora, is conceived as a vision uniting past and future, where design becomes a meeting point between times, cultures, and knowledge. Tempora invites designers and visitors to reflect on the responsibility of each object as part of a continuum, a piece of a collective narrative in which aesthetics, function, ethics, and sustainability coexist.
The artists and their creations
Sherry Cordova (USA) transforms marine microfauna into sustainable jewelry that reflects the fragility and harmony of the oceans. Amanda Tartik (Brazil) combines seashells, pearls, and metals into artworks that intertwine nature, memory, and human impact. Folpo-Filippo Marani (Italy) creates experimental jewelry, such as the brooch Sempreverde, blending gold and natural elements into living, versatile objects. Mariko Kumon (Spain) transforms memories and intercultural experiences into painted bronze jewelry, exploring resilience, vulnerability, and human relationships. Verónica Pérez (Chile) crafts wearable micro-sculptures inspired by the Atacama Desert, melting silver, gold, and diamonds into pieces that evoke light, landscapes, and constellations.
May Gañán (Spain) uses organic forms, such as cloth, to create jewelry that breaks standard formats and invites personal storytelling. Amanda Paige (USA) produces sculptural jewelry with ancient techniques, transforming materials into symbols of resilience and rebirth. Luisa M. Florez Herran (USA/Colombia) addresses mental health with meditative and protective jewels, balancing strength and delicacy. Elledi Gioielli di Laura Di Leo (Italy) combines metals, wires, and oxidation into poetic pieces where the sacred heart, thread, and circle symbolize emotions, growth, and transformation. Silvana Bohorquez (Bolivia) explores love, inner strength, and invisible ties through 18K gold, embroidery, and natural gemstones.
Julian Graeve (Germany) examines masculinity and identity through wooden masks with silver inserts, navigating the line between protection and vulnerability. Sophie Lowe (UK) creates sculptural necklaces in aluminum and silver, addressing forms, textures, and resistance against violence toward women. Mariana Gorga (Italy) transforms handwritten strokes into symbolic jewelry, tackling psychological violence and resilience through brooches and poetic necklaces.
Hennie Broers (Netherlands) elevates jewelry to art through perforation techniques and creative material combinations, revealing beauty even in scrap materials. Marisia Lukaszewski (Australia) crafts jewelry from found objects, inspired by the environment, humor, and Arte Povera philosophy, emphasizing sustainability and craftsmanship. Jemma Slade (UK) combines recycled gold, ethical gemstones, and horn to create pieces exploring human connections, nature, and memory.
Marcela Dias (Brazil) creates wearable silver sculptures with Japanese seashells, reflecting on perfection, egocentrism, and resilience from a multicultural perspective. Sheila Westera (Switzerland) produces sculptural jewelry in metal, stones, and miscellaneous materials, blending irony, critique, and poetic storytelling.
I DON’T SHINE, I have something to say is more than an exhibition; it is a platform that amplifies contemporary jewelry’s ability to tell stories and engage the public with relevant, universal themes.
