Iris Nieuwenburg
My jewellery is an assemblage of already existing images , cut up elements and images re-orded, re-arranged and put together with traditional goldsmith techniques. (collage from; pictures, dolls houses things, antique glass elements, vintage second hand, my grandmother's jewellery)
At first glance the techniques I use are not always visible, still it plays an important part in the realisation of the jewel, setting, riveting and small screws.
My work arise from the thought over specific target group or senerys;18 Th interiors ,gardens, birds or flower arrangements.
I like to look at; Tradition and classical jewellery and use them as a blueprint for my jewellery.
As well as traditional presentations, think; Butterfly collections and Doll-houses and use these as a context for the jewellery.
I evented a techniques of a top layer of thick raisin applied on photo's nice thick and beautiful shiny translucent, connected on Formica, which gives a lot of opportunities to make images wearable.
As visual starting point I was using images from French 18 Th century interior books, were I take out and parts of the surroundings, to create a kind of a mood or a still with out a presents.
I am intrigued by the richness of the colours, pattern and the amassing object from this time witch makes me wonder about the people who lived in these interiors and fantasise about the daily- life and special occasions as tea parties and dressing up for dancing nights under the sparkling candles.
In my work I like to search in the limited space of a jewel and in the image I selected, to depth and dimensions, by combining 2 and 3 D and to play with different scales and angles in order to tell the story in his best way.
