Intro
The icon of the rainbow is a good example of the archetypes employed by the artist Mi-Ah Rödiger. It is her way of joining her work with universal memories and mythological stories. By choosing jewellery as her medium, sensory experiences also become part of her work.

A rainbow often refers to unfulfilled dreams. While actually it only marks the transition from sun to rain, the very moment of transformation. From this point of view a rainbow could better symbolize the place where longing ends and something new begins.
The icon of the rainbow is a good example of the archetypes employed by the artist Mi-Ah Rödiger. It is her way of joining her work with universal memories and mythological stories. By choosing jewellery as her medium, sensory experiences also become part of her work. It is a remarkable way of getting a personal connection with abstract ideas and associations. In this exhibition Rödiger’s jewellery does not confirm to the traditional prototypes: she has found unconventional ways of offering the wearer strength, grace or protection.

Complementary contrasts are everywhere in this work. Pieces have bright and dark characteristics, ranging from colourful optimism to dark temptation. Also in the choice of materials attributes reinforce one another: you find hard next to soft, natural next to artificial, alluring next to disturbing. In the jewellery of Mi-Ah Rödiger the rainbow stand for connecting opposites. On the one hand you have the awareness of life’s complex reality and on the other the eloquence of the arts. The goal is not the proverbial pot of gold, but the power of imagination.
