Intro
The drawings are representations of the anthropomorphized flashlights, with their eyes watching, and the artist’s own interpretations of electrical diagrams from the book series Audels New Electric Library with Illustrated Diagrams, published in 1940.

Carolanne Patterson
The origins of this exhibition go back to Carolanne Patterson’s days as a student in Prague. There, she started collecting old flashlights that she bought from junk stores. Two years ago she began photographing the flashlights and drawing over these photographs with Sumi ink.

The results are fantastic, wondrous drawings of landscapes, and illuminated, sculptural objects to be worn or held in our hands, or in our pockets。

Carolanne Patterson holds a BFA and MFA in Metals from the State University of New York, New Paltz, and a BA in Art History from the University of Pittsburgh. She was a Fulbright Fellow at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, Czech Republic.

The artist has won multiple prestigious international awards and exhibited worldwide. In addition, Patterson has taught and lectured widely and currently serves as an adjunct professor at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Boston, MA, and at Connecticut State, Middlesex Campus, Middletown, CT. She is based in New Haven, Connecticut and is represented by Jewelers’Werk Galerie.

Opening: Saturday, October 26th with a reception to meet the artist from 12 – 4 pm.
