Intro
This exhibition of African jewelry features works by African jewelry artists from various countries and European artists, who are inspired by African jewelry culture, they are reflecting the extraordinary cultural diversity of the continent as well as the simultaneity of tradition and modernity.

The exhibition "Proudly African - Jewellery Affairs" is a part of the program "Idar-Oberstein adorned" at Villa Bengel. Works by African jewelry artists from various countries will be on display. As well works by European artists, who are inspired by African jewelry culture, are on display. The jewelry pieces are part of a collection that Martina Dempf has assembled.
 

The exhibition, curated by Martina Dempf, showcases paradigmatic jewelry creations by African artists from various regions. The selected masterpieces of ethnic and contemporary African art jewelry reflect the extraordinary cultural diversity of the continent and the simultaneity of tradition and modernity.
The more than forty African artworks on display were collected by Martina Dempf on research trips and artistic workshops over the last four decades. The exhibition is complemented by some of the artist's own works and creations of selected contemporary artists from Europe, all of which are inspired by the multifaceted African cultures.


From 11.06.2021 to 06.08.2021 the exhibition can be viewed via Click&Meet. A catalog is published to accompany the exhibition.
