As a jewelry artist Annika Pettersson is fascinated with value and authenticity, how these concepts are present in intimate objects. The nature of jewelry is in detail, technique, and direct relation to the material. Jewelry as a concept encompasses many ideas that are inherent in the history of remix, relating to the unique handmade as well as the digitally mass manufactured.

In the exhibition Remix Resolution, she will show three new bodies of works.
The project Sample the ring has its starting point in the remix culture. Remix generally refers to the practice of recombining preexisting media content- popular songs, films, television programs, texts, web data- to fabricate a new work.
Royal resolution takes its inspiration from tradition royal necklaces and the process of transformation. The project is based on the notion of the copy and pasting from one media to another, duplication of data, sampling, and mash-up of pre-existing works. Today we have unlimited access to pictures and information online, this extensive accessibility often pays the price of loss in resolution. This project creatively examines the formal changes that occur in online pictures due to the change of resolution.
The project Can’t believe it’s not is based on the concept of reconstructed materials. We live in a time when technologies have developed to a point where we can reconstruct different materials and enhanced specific qualities to fit our specializes material needs. Often can the reconstructed material be more expensive when compared to the original natural material. Reconstructed stone materials from various disturbers have been used to create a series of brooches that questions the status of materials in today’s society.
Annika Pettersson is a jewellery artist from Sweden. She completed her MFA with distinction at Konstfack University in Stockholm 2009. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions on an international scale and is currently living and working in Sweden and USA.
