According to the artist, 'Crosses unite the horizontal space and the vertical time, a meeting point between heaven and earth. The star symbolizes our actions in the world. Finally, the moon, cosmic mother, and the sun, cosmic father, are among the oldest symbols of humanity. Symbols that appeal to the world of dreams, the imagination, the unconscious...' To create these cosmic works, Arig utilizes a variety of materials— quartz, glass granules, pigment powder, acrylic, silver, and semi-precious stones—all on aluminum. Her pieces have a textural quality as if they’ve gathered stardust on their journey, and the simple, pure forms of the finished creations bring the cosmos down to earth.

Originally from Turkey, Nevin Arig is based in Belgium. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul and has done graduate work in Fine and Contemporary Jewelry at the Institute of Arts and Crafts in Brussels and Silversmithing at the Institute of Arts and Crafts in Mechelen, Belgium.  Arig has exhibited her work internationally and is represented exclusively in the U.S. by Jewelers’Werk Galerie.
 

• The show opens on Saturday, October 22nd with a reception to meet the artist from 1 – 4 pm.
• The exhibition is open during gallery hours: Monday through Saturday 11 am – 5 pm or by appointment.
