Galerie Rob Koudijs is very pleased to announce that from now on we will be representing the work of Ruudt Peters. As an introduction we will have a small presentation of his jewellery in our 'FrontRoom'.
Artist list
Ruudt Peters
After graduating from the Amsterdam Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 1974, Ruudt Peters immediately joined those artists who had a fresh approach to jewellery design. He was also drawn to large-scale objects and worked for a while on free-standing sculpture, a fascination which ultimately led to several projects for public spaces. During the nineteen eighties, Peters gradually shifted his focus again to jewellery design, which meanwhile had evolved into a highly personal idiom.
His 'Interno' collection (1991) was the first extensive group of jewellery – necklaces and brooches – developed from one theme and presented in a theatrical manner, complete with a publication and art edition. This was followed every few years by a new series of jewellery. This work always arose out of Peters’s interest for unconventional processes and materials, in which alchemistic, philosophic and mystical aspects provided an increasingly emphatic context. In his most recent work 'Anima' (2009), the artist only determined its preconditions – for the most part allowing chance to take over the role of designer. In 2000 Peters received the prestigious Françoise van den Bosch award for his body of work.
Galerie Rob Koudijs is very pleased to be representing Peters from December 2010. By way of introduction, we will be featuring a selection of his work from recent years in the FrontRoom. The art editions and various publications will naturally be available in the gallery as well. This will be followed in the coming year by a solo exhibition, once again comprising new, highly distinctive jewellery pieces.
