Intro
This winter NONNE 11 will host three craft artists in a three-part exhibition, featuring a curated collection of contemporary craft objects in dialogue with art jewellery by Nora Kovats and Alvaro-Luca Ellwart.

Artist list

Alvaro-Luca Ellwart, Rosa Gies, Lars Kanter, Nora Kovats, Gabriel Tarmassi
Atelier NONNE 11, a new creative space founded by jewellery artists Nora Kovats and Alvaro-Luca Ellwart, functions both as workshop-gallery and as an aspiring platform for cultural events in Bamberg. The space is dedicated to finding a spirit of connectivity, promoting excellent craftsmanship, and creating a dialogue between different viewpoints by merging artistic disciplines.
NONNE 11 will host regular exhibitions with guest exhibitors. These events are born from the desire to get the public more involved and interested in the intricacies of craftsmanship in general and contemporary body adornment in particular. Nora and Alvaro search for stories that charge their reality with meaning, acting as connective tissue between past and present, traditional and contemporary, the outside world and the self. An emphasis is put on skilled craftsmanship and painstaking execution, with a view to re-contextualize craft techniques in a contemporary world.

Gabriel Tarmassi - Wood
Inspired by natural structures such as landscapes, dunes and waves, Bamberg-born artist Gabriel Tarmassi creates wooden sculptures and objects that explore the relationship between humanity and nature. His tactile creative process of interpreting these shapes embodies a dialogue between the artist and the material’s inherent organic structure.

Exhibition: 4 - 8 Dec 21
Opening: 4 Dec & 5 Dec 21, 11:00-20:00
Artist talk: 8 Dec 21, 10:15

Rosa Gies - Weaving/Basketry
Through abstraction and re-imagining traditional rare Franconian basketry techniques in a present-day context, Rosa Gies succeeds in transporting an ancient heritage into contemporary design practice. Her work focuses on the diversity of surface structures dictated by different weaving techniques, as well as on the traditional material willow’s wide range of possible applications.

Exhibition: 11 - 15 Dec 21
Opening: 11 Dec & 12 Dec 21, 11:00 – 20:00
Artist Talk: 15 Dec 21, 10:15

Lars Kanter - Porcelain
Brandenburg-born ceramic artist Lars Kanter creates black and white wheel-thrown porcelain vessels and lamps characterized by a sense of timeless elegance. Both his meditative work process and his formal design aesthetic speak of a deep fascination with East Asian schools of thought.

Exhibiton: 18 Dec - 19 Dec 21
Opening: 18 Dec & 19 Dec 21, 11:00 – 20:00
