This year, Joya Brava turns 10! One decade of collaborative work, projects, dreams, exhibitions, journeys, friendship and learning. We have significantly contributed to the creation of a new Chilean Jewelry, spreading the word of our work and creators from this far Latin American land. But these achievements would not have been possible without the support of our mentors, teachers and partners who have come along all this way with us in an unprecedented adventure of collective self-managed learning.
BravasXDentro Interviews is a compilation of Instagram live interviews where one of our members invites one of our tutors to a casual live interview where you can join and interact.

All lives will be uploaded to InstagramTV for people to watch any time. Interviews will be held in Spanish.

Our third guest is Jorge Castañon, interviewed by Soledad Avila through Instagram @joyabravachile account.

Date: 04.06.2020
Time: 5 pm Mexico/Colombia; 6 pm Chile; 7 pm Argentina/Brazil; 12 pm Spain.

About Jorge Castañon:
Jorge was our tutor in 2017-2018. The work we made together became the exhibition “Interiors”, presented during the 2nd Latin American Contemporary Jewelry Biennial in Buenos Aires 2018 and during Munich Jewellery Week 2019.
Jorge Castañón was born in Buenos Aires in 1957. Graduated in Biology at Universidad de Buenos Aires, he has consistently pursued an art related life: he worked in photography, and formed himself in sculpture, chasing and metalsmithing. In 1990 he founded La Nave Studio, one of the first places dedicated to contemporary jewelry in Argentina. He has held workshops and conferences on contemporary jewelry in Argentina but also in Chile, Spain and United States. At present he still runs Taller La Nave and he is curator and a jury member of Joyeros Argentinos, Argentinian Contemporary Jewelry online platform.
Jorge´s work has been selected for Shmuck 2011 and 2015. He has done individual exhibitions at Velvet da Vinci Gallery in San Francisco 2012 and Jeweler´s Werk in Washington DC 2016, in the United States. Since 2015 his work is part of the permanent collection Danner-Rotunde of the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.
None of what we do from now on is innocent -If it ever was-, and if we throw stones it should be far enough to reach places we have not yet seen.
I speak about gestures, repairments and other emergencies.
I speak about humans that shall reborn.
I speak about re-founding the human species, shifting anger into more caressing forms.
Rethink the man that Mary Shelley dreamt about one stormy night.
I speak with urgency. I don’t know if we have much time.
I speak about what broke, about what is broken.
Of forgetfulness.
Of what has been forgotten, of ourselves.
Of our own breaks
What is left under the carpet, what we kill from behind, what we do not face.
I make fragile objects because we are fragile too.
My pieces age, like I do.
I speak about finitude.
