On the Skin by Ana Paula de Campos

In this talk, we invite you to focus on the cultural context of the fields of design and of jewellery, since objects always reflect their time. Through a new perspective on contemporary jewellery, in its dialogue with the visual arts, we aim to enlarge the discussion on appearance versus essence. By drawing inspiration from Paul Valéry’s paradoxical statement concerning the depth of the skin, we come to think of design as “the skin of culture” and jewellery as “culture on the skin”.
