Crafts specialising in Jewellery Art.

Subject area description 
Crafts at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg involves exchange between education, research and society. The Crafts programmes at the first and second-cycle level include specialisations in Ceramic Art, Jewellery Art and Textile Art. HDK-Valand offers postgraduate education in artistic creation specialising in crafts, design, film, fine art, literary creation and photography, and a wide range of independent courses that support lifelong learning and professional development.
The core of the Crafts programmes at HDK-Valand support material and conceptual artistic exploration. The education requires the development of skill-based knowledge, investigates the conceptual identity of the Crafts and aims to foster debate about the meaning of material inquiries in contemporary society. Coursework prepares students for artistic careers that will contribute to the international field of craft.
The Crafts programmes have well-equipped workshops and studios in central Gothenburg. In addition, our partnerships with arts organizations and city-based archives support student learning in craft and exhibition practices.

Duties 
The role involves teaching primarily on the Master's Programme in Crafts and the specialisation of Jewellery Art. You will collaborate closely with with BA and MA teaching colleagues in the Ceramic Art and Textile Art specialisations and instruct and assess students from all three specialisations in joint courses.
Teaching in this capacity will include supervising student projects including writing, leading seminars and workshop delivering lectures, conducting examinations, developing course content and syllabi, and conducting administrative responsibilities that pertain to assessment and evaluation.
The candidate is expected to lead the subject's development and contribute to fostering critical contextualisation in jewellery art and crafts in general.
The teaching focus will be on nurturing students' artistic practice by helping them gain a thorough understanding and knowledge of jewellery art and guiding them to contextualise their practice with recognition of contemporary concepts and debates on the subject. Historical and traditional perspectives on jewellery art and craft is explored and critically examined. Students are trained to incorporate research-based methods into their artistic practice. You are expected to possess a solid understanding of the implications and semiotics of jewellery art, a high level of technical knowledge and skills in jewellery art, and extensive experience in jewellery art within an artistic context.
You have an interest of building a network of national and international collaborations that are of interest to the faculty and the institution. Your responsibilities and tasks also include participation in the working groups of the Craft - Fine Art Unit and the institution regarding development and quality assurance.
The language of instruction in the Master's programme is English.
Professional development is included in the employment in accordance with the University of Gothenburg's working hours agreement for teachers.

Eligibility 
The qualifications for employment as a teacher are stated in Chapter 4, Sections 4, of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg’s appointments procedure. In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance a person is qualified for a position as Senior Lecturer within disciplines in the fine, applied or performing arts if has demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a doctorate in fine, applied or performing arts or has demonstrated artistic expertise or has some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties it will involve.
This position also requires teaching experience in higher education and artistic skills at an international level in the field of jewellery art.
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this position.

• Documented artistic skills at an international level in the field of jewellery art.
• Visibility in artistic and professional contexts in the field of jewellery art.
• Documented experience of successfully developing and leading artistic projects within the field.
• Demonstrated familiarity and competence within contemporary critical theories and current discourse in the subject area.
• Technical knowledge and skills in the field of jewellery art.

Basis for evaluation of educational ability

• Documented experience of programme and syllabus development, including examination formats.
• Documented experience of lecturing, supervision, and examination within Higher Education.
• Demonstrated ability to convey knowledge as well as commitment and interest in the subject field of jewellery and craft.
• Demonstrated ability to translate current theoretical discourses in the field of Jewellery Art into teaching and practice development .
• Demonstrated knowledge and insight into research within the field of Fine Art.

Other grounds

• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues.
• Contribution to artistic research or artistic development work within the field.
• Ability to communicate in Scanidinavian language both orally and in writing.
• A doctorate within the subject or a cognate area would be of extra advantage.

Applicants who have not previously undertaken the higher education pedagogical courses provided by the university (or equivalent) are expected to complete these within the first two years of employment.

We will conduct an overall assessment and employ the candidate who is considered to possess the best qualities for implementing and developing the afore mentioned tasks.

As knowledge of Swedish is often a prerequisite for collegial co-operation, teachers, researchers and doctoral students who do not have a good knowledge of Swedish should be offered the opportunity to learn the language.

Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

Employment 
The employment is time-limited for five years according to the Higher Education Ordinance §4 ch. 10 Teachers in artistic activities (Högskoleförordningen 4kap §10 Lärare inom konstnärlig verksamhet). The appointment may be renewed for a further five years. This form of employment can be held for a maximum of ten years.

The position is part-time, 60% of full-time, and located at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg.

Start date is 1 January 2025, or the date we later agree upon.
