DEADLINE: 01/07/2026

This jewelry journey doesn’t just showcase Istanbul’s legacy, it invites you to participate in it.
I’ve done a lot of work over the years about contemporizing traditional jewelry. How do today’s contemporary jewelry designers, inspired by traditional designs, create jewelry which is alive for today’s audiences? Istanbul is an exciting place to explore how various artisans answer this question.
Next tour: October 14-19, 2026 (limited to 7 spaces).
From Ancient Craft to Contemporary Studio
Your days will be spent meeting working artisans in atmospheric bazaars and luxurious studios, observing the craft from molten metal to finished art, and learning the deeper meaning behind signature Turkish motifs.
Jewelry-making in Istanbul traces back 3,000 years to the Urartian culture, continuing through to Byzantine times, and flourished under the Ottoman Empire. The 15th-century Grand Bazaar became the epicenter for artisans from Armenia, Persia, the Arab world, and Europe—offering unrivaled access to materials and a unique blend of cross-cultural styles. Imperial jewelry was marked by intricate filigree, lavish gemstones, and rich, symbolic motifs—many of which are kept alive by present-day masters, some tracing their lineage directly to these storied traditions.
Today, Istanbul’s designers set international trends, fusing classical techniques with the latest innovations—3D printing, laser engraving, CAD, and AI—bringing you up close to the most intricate, personalized, and creative jewelry of the age. Their jewelry styles are coveted by collectors and connoisseurs.

Warren Feld bio
For Warren Feld, Jewelry Designer, jewelry can only be considered art as it is worn. And that creates many challenging dilemmas for a designer like himself. Whether he was stringing beads, weaving beads, knotting between beads, manipulating wire, fabricating metals, it takes a certain comprehension and fluency in design. With movement, construction takes equal stage with visual appeal. Colors get enhanced, amplified or distorted. Compositions, on the one hand, which if static as in a hung painting, might feel satisfying and complete, on the other hand, when the object is not stationary, the jewelry designer has to resort to new ways of thinking through the arrangements of design elements. Warren’s works reflect overcoming these challenges.
One of my passions is exploring how to contemporize traditional jewelry so that it becomes alive for today's audiences. I organize trips to deliver an immersive exploration. It is important that my guests -- artisan, collector or enthusiast -- experience traditional and contemporary jewelry making and designs so as to become more familiar with possibilities in technique, concept and value. I'd love for you to join me on this wonderful curated Itinerary.
