DEADLINE: 15/09/2017

The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) is launching an exciting new publication project, the Jewelry and Metals Survey (JAMS). This new annual publication will help propel the field forward, highlight the best new work being made in the field of jewelry and metals, and present a wide range of the type of work being produced. The 2017 jurors are Vivian Beer, Cornelie Holzach, and Alan Revere.
JAMS will be an annual survey of jewelry and metals in contemporary art, architecture, craft, and design created in the previous year by emerging and established artists, as well as students. Every year, a new jury of curators, artists, designers, gallery owners, and historians will select the work. The publication will showcase 200-juried objects. These objects can be traditional or art jewelry, objects – functional or not, sculptural, architectural, public art, or design objects. Each juror will write a brief essay relating to what they see as they jury their selections. Each included artist will have the option of providing any contact information in the Directory section of the book.
SNAG invites artists, craftspeople, designers, public artists, and architects worldwide to submit images of new works focusing on metal and/or jewelry. Everyone from any sector of the field at any level of experience is encouraged to apply. Curators are welcome to submit recent work purchased by their institution. For details on how to apply please visit www.snagmetalsmith.org.
SNAG is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance jewelry and metalsmithing by inspiring creativity, encouraging education, and fostering community. SNAG envisions a diverse jewelry and metals community engaging in thoughtful conversation and critical discourse while preserving tradition and embracing innovation. SNAG publishes award winning Metalsmith magazine, holds conferences, and a wide range of programming to elevate and promote the work and careers of its members.
In late September and October, a jury will select the top 100 images from the submissions. Also each juror will get to select an additional 33 images to also be published. The JAMS book will be published and available in both e-book and print format in December 2017.
Participants are requested to complete the entry form, submitting a total of one to three digital images illustrating one work per image. Three images of different pieces are preferred, although participants may send up to three images of multiple views of one or two pieces. Digital photographs must be of actual objects designed and made between July 15, 2016 and September 1, 2017. One one entry allowed per artist. Please note an entry can have up to three pieces for consideration.
Image Requirements
The photographs must be of actual objects designed and made between July 15, 2016 and September 1, 2017.
For submission on CaFE, applicants need to submit their photographs in the following format:
The image file should be labeled as follows: artist’s last name_first name_title.jpg. Do not use quotation marks, apostrophes, parentheses or any characters that are not numbers or letters.
