Intro
In this online jewelry class, students will explore alternative materials to create unique wearable pieces that don’t require a torch or a well-equipped metals studio.
Class Description:
In this online jewelry class, students will explore alternative materials to create unique wearable pieces that don’t require a torch or a well-equipped metals studio. Discussions about a broad range of materials and how to identify materials fitting the student's personal design style will occur throughout the course. Color, texture, and the working properties of materials will be discussed and will determine techniques for transforming and repurposing materials into wearable jewelry. Students will investigate model-making and samples in paper media, an easily accessible material, to learn methods for deconstructing and reconstructing, which they can then apply to the materials of their choice. Some possible materials to be explored will include plastic, fabric, and found objects. Along with alternative material explorations, basic cold connected techniques will be demonstrated.

Students will need access to a simple studio set up at home or should be prepared to rent time outside of class at the Baltimore Jewelry Center by the third class.
A materials kit valued at $35 (including shipping) will be sent to each student upon enrollment of this course.
Students will need an internet connection as this class will be taught online via Zoom.
