Intro

Filigree decoration is a technique created in antiquity. It is a delicate form of open wire work. The decoration is created by twisting wires of different metals, to which sometimes small metal balls (granules) are attached.

In this workshop you will learn the filigree technique step by step. We start by making a paste of borax, silver and malachite. Then we explore the different ways of twisting silver wire. With the wire we form figures which we then frame in a silver framework for strength. This technique leads to very fine and frivolous results.

The end result is a jewel of your own design; this can be a pendant, earrings, ring or brooch.

Statement

Each of our workshops offers an extensive introduction to a specific
technique or method of design. You will be completely immersed into
the subject matter and will receive plenty of background information,
enabling you to continue working independently afterwards.

Some of the workshops are open to beginners, as no prior knowledge or
skill is acquired. In the advanced workshops specific techniques are
developed for which you already need to master the basic jewelry
techniques.

The studio works with 1 regular lecturer (Lotte De Mey) and several
visiting lecturers. All lecturers have several years of experience in
the subject matter that they teach and have proven both their artistic
and technical merits. With these standards we can offer you a unique
range of high quality workshops.
