Join us for an exciting enameling workshop where Laura will guide you through the playful creation of cloisonné lettering. She will be sharing her fast and dirty (but not contaminated) tips on how to achieve graphic cloisonné enamel pieces with a focus on lettering and shading techniques.
All of our online workshops are recorded and, with purchase of the seat in the class, you have access to the recording(s) between workshop sessions as well as for 45 days after the workshop ends.

This workshop will be entertaining for enamelists and non-enamelists who are interested in the entire process and ready to discover the fun of seeing your favorite sayings show up for the party.

12:00 pm - 2:00 pm.
Cost: 145.00 US dollars.
Course Outline:
DAY 1 November 15th.
● Introduction and slide presentation.
● Image choice and drawings, lettering…how to choose lettering that excites you and layout Choosing colors before starting, sketching and idea building.
● Piece preparation: metal gauge, shapes, cutting, annealing, forming, cleaning and sifting counter enamel and flux.
● Cloisonné wire choices.
● Tools for forming wires, glue techniques, placement, and creating lines that flow off of the canvas.
● Firing the wires just enough.
DAY 2 November 22th.
● Wet packing and color set-up, use of moisture and drying enamels.
● Firing and how many layers?
● Cutting excess cloisonné wires and sanding downsides.
● Grinding techniques.
● Correcting mistakes.
● Final Firing and finishing techniques.
Outcome:
This will be a technique driven online workshop, best to observe, take notes and ask questions during the course. And if possible, practice and prep pieces between the classes The course will guide in how to lean into a colorful and graphic exploration of lettering, to create various cloisonné enamel medallions ready to set or enjoy.
About Laura Fortune:
Originally from the panhandle of Florida, Laura Fortune studied metalwork and enameling at SUNY New Paltz in the Hudson Valley. After many years living in New York City, she has consistently traveled with her enameling studio from Portugal, New York and now in the high desert of Arizona.
