Yael Reisner founded, directs and acts as the Head Curator of Objects Beautiful, a gallery and a company registered in April 2023.
Objects Beautiful shows and sells a core collection of artwork, and will run four to five exhibitions a year, probably group exhibitions to begin with, as we will show a selection from all art disciplines - visual artistic work focused on the pursuit of beauty.
Traditionally, there is a separation between applied arts and fine arts, yet, we, in the gallery, treat all the included disciplines on equal weight: jewellery, ceramics, glass, textile, fabric, and lacquer work, precious metal work, wood and paperwork, architectural material, (drawings, paintings, models, films), paintings, sculptures, photography, videos, and films. A wide range of collectable beautiful objects in 2D, 3D, and VR.
Beauty is the overriding theme of the gallery/shop, it is its identity, personality and values. It’s who we are, it’s our branding, as that is our inspiration, culture, uniqueness, and mission, which leads to our sense of style, our communication characteristics, and how customers will describe our company. The gallery in its pursuit combines culture with selling, the culture of surrounding ourselves with beauty, which makes us, as neuroscientists proved and confirmed, not only happy individuals but healthy.
As an architect, from 2010 to 2022, I campaigned for beauty in architecture by publishing a book by Wiley UK - Architecture and Beauty, conversations about a Troubled Relationship – which was based on a set of 16 interviews with influential architects, from Frank Gehry, who was then 80 years old, to Hernan Diaz Alonso, who was then 40 years old, representing a cultural cross-section, and running 6 symposiums in Europe and the USA.
In 2018 I won the Estonian competition for Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2019, to act as the head curator of its exhibition, symposium and competition for young architects. In the same year, I was contracted to guest-edit the September 2019 issue of Architectural Design magazine, AD, UK. Both focused on why Beauty matters in the world of architecture.
In early 2023 I decided to expand that campaign into a curation of a diverse set of collectables, sourced internationally, from emerging artists to established ones, a wide age range, and above all selected works of art culminated at beauty.
Many argue that the judgement of whether something is beautiful or not is subjective, yet, if an object is exquisitely beautiful most people agree on how beautiful it is, which makes one think of the nature of beauty and its power.
People never stopped using the word beautiful in daily life, but, since the 1950s in the visual fine arts and applied arts, the culture of pursuing beauty, as the leading concept of the artwork, was under heavy critique, and in time the word became a taboo, emptied of its content. Yet, there are clear signs of its resurgence in different disciplines and, I believe, that this is just the beginning. Nevertheless, a lot of outlets, galleries and shops, still exhibit art which is far from being beautiful, or interested in beauty, but, perhaps in the appreciation of the merits of being useful, or technically highly inventive, self-expressive, or environmentally orientated, though not necessarily beautiful.
So far Objects Beautiful has gone through the overwhelming experience of two Pop-Up exhibitions, the first one in Soho Square, and the second as part of Collect 2024, at the Somerset House, aiming at having a fixed location by the coming autumn.
