Bio

Hengamé Mojtahedi-Jones (formerly known as Hengame Mojtahedi) is an Iranian contemporary jewellery artist and lecturer based in Rome, Italy. She studied Jewellery Design in Iran and holds a Master's degree in Fashion Studies from Sapienza University of Rome.

Her practice explores jewellery as a medium of artistic freedom, combining traditional craftsmanship with experimental materials, sculptural forms, and emerging technologies. Influenced by her Persian heritage and personal experiences, her work moves between adornment, art, and narrative.

Her work has received international recognition, including honours from the International Design Awards (IDA), the A' Design Award, and the London International Creative Competition (LICC).

Statement

My journey began in 2013 with goldsmithing and traditional jewellery-making techniques. I later studied Jewellery Design in Iran, as part of one of the early generations of women who had the opportunity to pursue the field academically. That foundation gave me a strong respect for craftsmanship, precision, and material knowledge, but over time I felt increasingly drawn toward a more artistic and experimental approach.

My practice has gradually expanded from precious metals and classical forms into contemporary jewellery, sculptural objects, unconventional materials, digital processes, and new technologies. I am interested in movement, fluidity, transformation, and the relationship between the body and the object. Some works are bold and architectural, others fragile, narrative, or deliberately raw. I do not aim for a single visual language; instead, I allow each project to develop according to its own idea and material logic.

My Persian heritage and my experience of living between cultures are important parts of my practice. Memory, identity, displacement, belonging, conflict, and the reconstruction of home often appear in my work, particularly in recent collections. At the same time, I remain deeply interested in beauty, form, ornament, and the pleasure of making.

Material choice is led by concept rather than convention. Alongside silver, gold, and traditional jewellery techniques, I work with materials such as resin, iron filings, magnets, brick fragments, plants, salt, textiles, and found objects. I also use digital design and artificial intelligence as creative tools to extend the process of experimentation and to explore forms that might otherwise remain only imagined.

For me, contemporary jewellery is an open territory where craft, memory, technology, culture, and personal experience can meet. My practice continues to evolve because freedom, in my work, also means allowing the unexpected to become part of the process.
