Intro
Lauriane Sémat began her career as a plastic artist. In different forms and with the help of varied mediums, she never ceases to appropriate the body, especially female, by dealing with the issues of her time. In 2012, she decided to work on the body, no longer in a "direct" way but by adorning it. The work of the material is imperative to her. Three years later, satisfied with her research, she launched herself in the eyes of the general public with this fierce desire to erase the border between art and crafts. These brushed metal and 925 silver jewelry are incomparably light. On the other hand, the materials used are durable and do not experience any deterioration due to time. His work is now divided into three parts (Origins, Exception and Recreation), nourished by the same demanding creative process.
Lover of the material, I like the direct work with it. Thus, all my jewels are made by hand, without machines. They are therefore all unique, raw and marked by this same controlled irregularity. The first priority when creating my workshop was to create a light piece of jewelry that we can wear every day without suffering from the weight. It was therefore necessary to find the material that would hold up over time. After trying to work with silver, steel, brass, stainless steel, the encounter with aluminium had the effect of love at first sight. The possibilities of this material are very vast, and I am far from having explored everything, which feeds a real curiosity. My approach is really part of the desire to enhance the gesture, like the brushstroke we can guess on a canvas and to create small works, miniature sculptures, delicate mobiles to wear every day. It is a sensitive, almost organic work where the brutality of the metal blends with the finesse of the forms.
