Intro
Marilena Karagkiozi is a Greek, Italy based artist who has studied History, Archaeology and history of arts in Athens and has had design, art and private classic jewelry seminars. Her work is contradictory, personal, a cry for freedom. She generates new materials with child curiosity, weighed down by time melancholy. When jewelry becomes restricting she escapes to different scales and media of expression (objects, sculpture, graphic design, video art).

Statement

My work is the result of different, often contradictory concepts: one of which expresses my desire to stay attuned to my perceptions of people’s needs and the other that focuses on topical approaches to the history of art and of art objects. I embrace both traditional as well as modern techniques and find great inspiration in the ensuing dialogue that my art aims to reflect. I love transforming simple objects into art and the surprise caused by the unexpected. I work with different materials, exploring old and new ones and generating my own with a child’s curiosity, sometimes overburden by the melancholy of time as a concept. I consider myself a deeply sentimental person with lots of ideas who has worked hard to become technically skilled to be able to incarnate them.
I strongly believe that is very important for the originality of one's work for it to be the result of a personal journey from the start in a form of a theory, an idea, to the
end, when the object finally comes to life.
