Bio
Sarah Ordóñez is a jewellery and object maker born in 1989 in Guadalajara, Mexico. She completed her BFA and Masters in Contemporary Jewellery and Body Ornament in Alchimia in Florence, Italy. Currently, Sarah is based in Mexico.
I arrived at jewellery like how I’ve arrived at many important things in life, by chance, like me being on this planet right now, just another coincidence. I liked the idea of making something with my hands from sketch, something that occupies space and the body. The idea is to give power and meaning to an object, making them become our life companions. I am often driven by the idea of duality, contrast, and opposites. Tend to find a lot of inspiration from the animal world.
Vivas
Femicide: From Lat. Femîna "woman" and –cidio.
The term femicide denounces macho violence, where hatred of women is the main motive that drives the perpetrator to be violent. A femicide is not a simple homicide, but a deliberate attack due to gender.
In Mexico, more than 23,800 women had been killed in the last 10 years.
Every 24 hours 7 women are murdered.
Jaguar Women,
Warriors and rebels.
Fighting every day, to live.
Holding each other, listening to each other, conspiring, deciding, laughing.
Living for themselves, living.
Crying and singing.
Shouting and dancing.
Alive.
Les otres
…The moth bothers, is not beautiful enough, or pleasant enough.
With her clumsy flying, her dull colors and her way of being she is not welcome.
She is unwelcomed because of everything she is not.
The swarm of moths becomes a multitude of minorities.
The stories of the “others”.
The dissidents by choice or by nature.
Accompanying each other.
I want them to be your companion.
