In Après Ski the series ranges from quite portable and elegant jewelry to more voluminous, yet still portable, jewelry items, and small sculptures. The pieces shown were created in the period 2021-24 from various discarded ski poles and two pairs of old cross-country skis combined with other finds around Haldis Scheicher's workshop.
Artist list
Roland Ferrigato, Felix Malnig, Haldis Scheicher
The Après Ski series shows Haldis Scheicher‘s passion for breathing new life into items of everyday use in her jewelry and objects. Alienated from their original purpose – as a whole or through a selection of certain details – they are placed in new contexts. Après Ski in this case also means a life afterward for things that have well served their purpose in the overrun ski circus and found a new place in art.
Roland Ferrigato brought a special accent to this work with his Photos. They are a perfect supplement to the work of Haldis Scheicher. The Photo-Sessions took part in 2021.
Felix Malnig is a chronicler of loneliness. Even when there are people in his paintings, which is rarely the case, they convey a sense of forlornness and emptiness. They are landscapes painted with acrylic and spray paint on canvas, in which time seems to have stopped, the temperature dropped and almost all life seems to have disappeared.
While jewelry artist Haldis Scheicher deals with the used and consumed material of skiing in her work, painter Felix Malnig documents in his paintings how tourism changes the Alpine landscape. Roland Ferrigato, in turn, collaborates with Haldis Scheicher, staging her objects in his photos and introducing a new level through his interpretation.
