Intro
To coexist is to inhabit the same space, a space of meeting where differences exist in harmony. In a world governed by individuality, the idea of coexistence invites us to think of the other, confronts us with the challenge of including them, and urges us to care for that shared space.

This exhibition is part of the IV Latin American Biennial of Contemporary Jewelry “CoDevenir

COEXISTENCE. Five Perspectives.

Pursuing this idea, Elvira Cibotti, Anne Luz Castellanos, Giselle Lekerman, Paula Botto Fiora, and Gaby Squassini conceived this exhibition. The jewelry pieces emerged from weekly meetings: exchanging ideas, sharing perspectives, and creating a space of trust, nourished over a cup of coffee.

Elvira covers beautiful araucaria seeds with successive layers of paper. Anne Luz repurposes the keys and mechanisms of a disused piano, giving new meaning to those remnants of animals. Giselle combines painting and metal in expressive pieces that honor her father. Paula focuses on the desperate pursuit of stereotypical beauty, using delicate mirrors covered with medication leaflets. Gaby transforms the plastic that surrounds us into colorful necklaces.

How do we coexist in a world where survival seems to be the goal? Burnt branches, the result of fires that devastate Patagonia's flora and fauna; birds flying away from a hurricane in search of refuge; memories etched into stalactites of paintings that heal the soul; mirrors that reflect a distorted image of ourselves; plastic waste invading the oceans.
Coexistence can become suffocating. From this idea emerged the "series of unrest," for which each artist conceived a necklace—using their usual techniques and materials—that is uncomfortable, difficult to wear around the neck.

But there are signs of hope on this planet that "suffocates" us: the phoenix rising in a ravaged world, a sprout emerging from pinecones and seeds that survived a fire, people showing solidarity by separating plastic for recycling, something beautiful emerging from the deep pain of losing a loved one, the awareness of the futility in pursuing unattainable beauty ideals.

In this hostile world where we sometimes feel overwhelmed, there is always room for enjoyment and joy, a sliver of light where a creative and complicit coexistence becomes possible, in which personal perspectives come together to build a collective narrative.
