Artist list
Marianne Grootenboer, Minne Smits, Karin van Paassen
Together with visual artists Marianne Grootenboer and Minne Smits, Karin van Paassen is exhibiting at gallery Wijnstraat in the historical city Dordrecht, the Netherlands. For the exhibition DRIE she developed a collection of jewellery/objects made of black porcelain. Karin is always strongly influenced by traditional, original design, skin decoration and jewellery from other cultures, especially Asian and African countries. She has a large collection of ethnic jewellery that she collects on her travels. The collection connection at gallery Wijnstra comprises black porcelain links, abstracted charms, vertebrae, egg shapes and horsehair. Porcelain is hard, heavy and cold and symbolizes pain. Karin often designs jewellery that is hung on the back, responding to her severe back problems. At the same time, porcelain is a fragile and breakable material and becomes warm when worn on the skin. Elements that represent life.
Karin has exhibited her porcelain jewellery and objects at home and abroad and is in private and museum collections. She regularly works in the inspiring porcelain city of Jingdezhen in China, where the porcelain is incredibly white. There she makes the porcelain components of her designs and always prefers blackened porcelain. The craftsmen are very surprised at her choice of colour.
In addition to her work as a designer, she has worked as a curator for 35 years and made dozens of exhibitions with designers at home and abroad in museums and other cultural institutions, with a great preference for projects with contemporary jewellery designers.
Opening: March 4th at 3 pm by Hans Walgenbach and singer Aleksandra Popovska sings songs from Macedonia.
Saturday and Sunday: 13:00 – 17:00 h.
